The Hobie 16 is probably the  most popular sport catamaran,  for its recreational and leisure use and for its  racing design. The boat measures: 5.05 meters (16.7 feet) long by 2.43 (7.11 feet) wide, has a mast 7.92 m (26.6 feet)  height but his weight does not exceed 150 kg. Like its little brother the HC14, it is expected to go to the beach in the waves and rolls back almost surfing.

In contrast to the dinghies and keelboats, the HC16 has asymmetrical hulls which act as planes of drift and preventing it from disappearing under the crosswind.
